so, I've given TH8 a try. even more than that; collectively I've played about 10 hours for sure. still I can't get further than stage 6 or so.
I've heard that Imperishable Night is supposedly the easiest in the series. putting the hype about ZUN, the characters and therelike aside, what is it that makes people love these kinds of games so much?
I don't want to offend anyone, but why would anybody want to invest serious hours of working and learning in order to get through such a game?

Touhou isn't even fun. It gets extremely repetitive at times and the characters are just bland. Why do people like it so much?

Funny you should ask, the answer is actually "no" and this comes up a lot.

We're certainly more geared towards particular topics, though! Touhou and Japanese visual novels being the most obvious ones, but we sometimes discuss other aspects of Japanese popular culture (like mahjong and light novels).

It seems to be a galaga looking game... but with lots of spam... But then I go deeper and there is so much anime stuff revolving around it... why? This does not look like little girls to me
