She participated in almost every major naval engagement of the Pacific Campaign, cheating death and earning the nickname the Grey Ghost becoming the most decorated U.S. ship in naval history. Her last mission would be helping to ferry her fellow soldiers and sailors back home to enjoy peacetime once again. That is a fucking anime plot right there.
