Why conform to Japanese social standards of "normality"? It's not like she's in public office or anything; she's another actor. Actors party all the time and rave about it and it barely registers a reaction; what's so wrong with being honest about who she dates? One can argue about whether sex needs to come out of the closet as a topic of discussion, but dating sure shouldn't be a taboo topic. If anything, this whole incident made me like Aya Hirano more, even though I'm not exactly a fan of most of the series that star her. At least she's honest about her romantic preference and experience. She seems like a pretty fun person.
