Accidentally got your shopkeeper to 177? I wouldn't sweat it. I mean there's people like me out there. I have all my shopkeepers at my home around shop rank 20,000. Before I took up pet raising, probably one of the biggest gold sinks in the game, I was making tons of gold and couldn't spend it fast enough. So to get rid of it I invested like crazy. I mean, what else was I going to do with the gold was what I thought at the time.

I'm not sure at what specific shop levels these things started showing up but my magic vendors sell potions of evolution every now and then. I've also seen potions of descent on them. I've also have gotten a decent amount of wish spell books off of them.

My home vendors are higher shop rank than the rest of the world and I'm currently questioning if higher shop rank means a greater chance of seeing rare items show up. I've gotten spell books of wish from magic vendors on all three continents but so far I've seen a greater amount of them on my home vendors. Even though this is the case it's hard to prove that rare items show up more on higher shop rank vendors due to confounding variables that can lead to wrong conclusions. Such as the luck attribute, higher concentration of magic vendors in home compared to rest of the world, etc. So I can't conclude anything for sure but all the same I still wonder.

At any rate, if you're not seeing potions of evolution consistently and are interested in them then perhaps leveling your shop level more is in order. Investments are the best way to increase charisma and charisma as far as I can tell affects how many total pets you can have accompany you, performances, prostitution, and contributes to the success and how powerful certain special actions are. For instance, fascination dance, which can be used at party time quests instead of performance, uses charisma heavily in getting stars above peoples heads. I think the special action cheer is also affected by charisma.

There's also another benefit of investing a lot into shopkeepers. The amount of gold they carry is much higher than lesser invested shopkeepers. All of my home shopkeepers have enough gold in their inventory to buy several palaces of their own but are fine living with me apparently. For things that don't sell in shops like curries or if I need to unload high ticket items very quickly for some reason, I'm confident my highly invested shopkeepers has enough gold to pay me.
