Reminder that most people who are considered fluent in Japanese, even using the methods promoted on here, still cannot watch and understand 100% of anime. The average person who is "fluent" is at most half way to native level. Good luck.

Reminder that most people in these threads are still beginners that you're getting advice from.

Like everyone who recommends RTK is either doing RTK currently or just recently finished.

90% of this thread is thinking about how fluent they'll be in a year from now.

Only a few people actually know how long it really takes, and how boring it becomes.

Most people settle for intermediate and never become truly fluent. They can never 100% understand anything, they just guess at the stuff they don't know and skim over it.

Most people here confuse early progress with progress they'll make later on, thinking it's linear and not exponential.

Most people think their early motivation will stay the same years in, even to do basic things like watching anime.

I just realized this November will mark 5 years since I started learning Japanese.

I remember one of the first sites I read when I started was AJATT, looking back those claims of 1.5 years of immersion for native fluency are ridiculous.

I hope no one here actually believes the stupid "fluent in x" or "once I'm done RTK" or "as long as I finish this core 10k decK" memes.

That is just the beginning stuff.

10k is the goal of beginners, but as you approach it you realize you've still got a long way to go. Good luck my dude.
