This elder was seemingly mentoring the pushup-doer, holding what appears to be a branch of small flowers and looking rather solemn.

Now, were this the states, I'd assume they lost a bet. Is this a re-enactment of some cultural significance? Or did I pretty much hit the mark and the Japs just like humiliating exhibitionism?... to each his own.
