One of the greatest films from 2000s Japan. This film, along with Sono's 'Suicide Club', Miike's 'Ichi The Killer', Tsukamoto's 'A Snake of June' and Kurosawa's 'Pulse' haunted my psyche for a long time when I was a middle schooler in the early 2000s. Having seen it countless of times I can boldly say it's a modern masterpiece. That majestic and even spiritual display of rage and yearning of being a youth in the 2000s is extremely relatable, especially the usage of PC and internet culture of that period of time, which is a specialty of Iwai Shunji. Quite a few who are as good at warming and breaking hearts as Iwai.
