I gave this some thought yesterday and came to the realization that it doesn't have to be true, necessarily.
The main difference would be the anime avatars.

Take Twitch for example, the trend is to have a facecam. Unless you were already popular or are an edge case you won't be very popular without a facecam.
And since it is your real face being displayed this will cut out every single person who is shy or doesn't want their face on display while gaming, which might cut out a lot of entertaining people, or they are forced to be unpopular because they aren't using one.

Then take Hololive which uses an anime avatar. Now you can be an awkward shy person but still stream with a "facecam", so the selection of streamers isn't as narrow.
Even if they play a character it still seems like their real personalities are on display, even if it is acting to some degree.
