I just realized one of the major reasons why Hatate is so unpopular.

She doesn't have her own iconic theme song. Most characters are often irrevocably tied to a song that represents them. Music and getting lots of remixes contribute a lot towards the fandom's impression of characters when it's voted number one by far in the polls for why people like Touhou. Even midbosses at least get tied to stage themes. However, Hatate doesn't even have her own unique stage theme. She's stuck juggling game's couple stage songs and Aya's theme, further cementing the unfortunate impression that she's a rip-off or second fiddle.
