This is one of the big issues I have with the latter half of Chiru, as by sidestepping everything to do with the 'truth' of Sayo Ryukishi couldn't give satisfying answers to several problems the truth would provoke. George and Jessica's having separate versions of a 'diluted' Sayo in the Golden Land, for instance, wounds the idea that they'd "accept" her fully. After all, in a fantasy world after death, where they could ALL have their own proper versions of the woman they love, Jessica and George instead just get the persona she showed to them for all intents and purposes. The story can't fully get into that detail however, because to do so would expose the 'mystery' of Sayo to those who couldn't figure it out.
As a whole, the climax to several character's arcs and their stories can't be properly shown or provided thanks to what Ryukishi was attempting at the time, and that becomes immediately obvious when those plot threads actually get addressed in the manga since that's when Ryukishi was alright with those details actually being shown as concrete fact now. That's not to say they're satisfying answers exactly, but at least we got shit like Battler actually talking to Shannon about their past as if she's actually also Sayo in some regards and not just some lousy copy.

Talking of canon pairings, it's almost sad how little people care for George and Shannon together. One of the more important romances in the story, and yet the pairing gets less art than even Battler with Shannon. Poor George.
