Yeah, it's annoying when people say things like "I'm really into anime" but all they can list is the most generic shit like attack on titan or MHA. Then they act like your not "really" into anime because you haven't seen whatever is the most popular shit that's been on the front page of Netflix or Crunchy roll.

a sudden influx of casual fans flooding the places where long standing anime fans congregate is always annoying, I never had one in highschool but I've heard that a lot of peoples experiences joining an anime club in highschool is similar.

Those same people joke about how they "know the numbers" of different hentai and how degenerate they are, but those same people are repulsed by the idea of loli or trap hentai.

They are "anime fans" that still occupy the realm of normal people.

It's annoying because if you actually meet someone IRL who says they're into anime and manga you have to stop yourself and prod as to check whether they are actually into that sort of stuff or if they're just a surface dwelling normie.

I find actual normies worse though. The kind of people that berate or look down on you because almost all you watch is anime but have been hounding you to watch breaking bad or game of thrones for the last year. All the while thinking they're superior because they're media they consume is more mainstream and thus makes them more "sociable" as opposed to your "weird" hobby.

That's why I tend to avoid talking about my interest in anime and manga or just otaku stuff in general, but these new "ironic weeb" types are people you have to be cautious not to let your guard down as well. Generally I find people who are deep into weeb stuff (excluding the hardcore autists) tend to have some social awareness and hide it very well. Whereas casual weebs still orbit the realm of sociability but are lacking in self awareness due to the fact that they are circling the well of a taboo.

When I started browsing 4chan around the mid 2010's. There were a few comfy places and coming back to this site in 2021 i've seen entire boards fall to discord groups and other stuff. Some boards here now are no different than a discord or subreddit.

/lgbt/ is now full of leftist discod and twitter trannies, to the point where they are completely disconnected from the rest of the site. (before they would at least shit talks sjw tranners reference about blanchard, and shit talk hons and the like who made them look bad.)

/lit/ is no different, people will unironically call you an incel there for making a conservative post.

Others just have the same low effort thumbnails with dumbshit questions spewed out all over the board, /fit/ is like this now.

with vtubers I checked it out when EN first started. People that followed the JP group started complaining about newfags not respecting the culture in it. I noticed on here before /vt/ the people posting on here weren't old fags but the same obnoxious cunts that jumped on it when EN started. You could tell because they all loved Gura because she was the one with the most subs, and posted low effort memes and shit everywhere, gura fags were cancerous and were the bane of all other vtuber fans, old and new alike.

One guy in a discord group for a vtuber told me how a lot of these gura fans were literal children. Like 14 year olds and younger. He told me how is 9 year old sister watches gura. That's the calibre of newfags that flooded the the vtuber fandom. Was the cause for /vt/ and the leakage from it that still find it's way on /jp/.

That's when I learned gatekeeping was important.

Yeah but let's be honest look at the quality of the posts on here, how many of the people on here are 14 year olds that came here because it's th EdgIEST plAce ON THe InterNet whee they can spout out hashbrained low quality shitposts.

They like Gura and Ame because it's the sort fo stuff that most easily appeals to 14y year olds that like minecraft. It's fucking cringy.

The people on here aren't people that browse 4chan or people that are heavily involved in anime culture, they're youngshits with the minds of children. Need proof? just look at the posts on this thread.

yep, newfag here, started with hololive en and gura, been watching ever since.

I'd seen subbed clips of vtubers, but never really thought much of it, I thought "it's nice to watch highlights if they're subbed but what's the point of watching a stream if I can't understand it?"

Now I see a whole bunch of new people just like me, and there definitely are an influx of newfags that don't understand that when you come into a new group, you should sit back and try to learn what the rules and ways of that group are. (lurk moar basically)

I mostly try to lurk and not say anything, don't want to contribute to the storm of new-faggotry that there already is.

that looks nice but at the same time I highly doubt it because they're still not continuing the actual Prototype Novel. If this indicate or force Nasu to write Prototype then I'll be happy for it, but for now I feel they're just blue balling this shit because Fragment has popular character and use it to boost FGO, not because they care about prototype.
