I notice how a lot of /jp/'s favourite series have strong western influence. Umineko speaks for itself, and also Fate/Stay Night.

Touhou, despite meaning "eastern" is mostly an interesting blend and eastern and western fantasy.

Is there something about the japanese approach to western ideas we like better? I admit I find it hard to find many western fantasy stories that get me as excited as Fate/Stay Night. Japan have a talent for picking and choosing the bits of "Western" culture they like - which is almost personified by Kinzo and his super idealised "Western style" mansion.
