I have been studying Japan for the past 20 years. I have learned everything there is to know about not only the country's language, culture, people, and media, but I have basically become Japanese myself. I have lived here for 15 years. I have a Japanese wife. I have Japanese children(adopted because I didn't want hafus). I do not ever use loan words. I only eat food from Japanese restaurants. No western influence in my life outside this site. I know 70 thousand kanji. I have had in-depth conversations, in Japanese, regarding science, medicine, technology, and politics, all with leading figures in those fields. I am so filled with the Japanese spirit that the people of this great island truly treat me as one of their own. Despite all this knowledge of the language, there is one thing I have never understood. No matter how many hours I spend in the library. No matter how many linguists I contact. I have spent thousands upon thousands of hours trying to find an answer to this question, yet it always eludes me. I turn, at least, to you. Please help me. Tell me why they call Suisei 'comet'.
