First thing I turned on. Surprised it's opt in rather than default.
Also are the UI icons you mentioned a setting that's hidden somewhere? Cause I don't see those on mine. Hope I didn't download some super outdated Era game version from the wiki again.

Thanks for the tip on human companions, I'll try and get a balanced team comp of humans and demons. I'll probably avoid getting Ares and Thor on this playthrough early so that I don't ignore an important mechanic by brute forcing things. Even fighting the lv 9 Melusine in the first request was a decent challenge with me having to summon new demons mid battle after she mauled my frontline,
