Just do it. It's quite easy to get into, and OT Index is honestly one of the best LNs I've ever read (though that's probably the nostalgia speaking). You might need some time to be accustomed to the "three protagonist" thingy though, so I reckon you should probably consider reading Zashiki-Warashi or Heavy Object first to be more familiar with Kamachi's writing style before moving on to Index. Can't really say the same for its sequel though, the only good thing that ever came from NT/GT is Othinus and Kamijou Touma the Normal Highschool Dragon bashing the head of Kamijou Touma (Pink) with a car and a ton of fertilizer and nothing else. Misaki best girl.
