Yes, but it never really worked. However, I have a fairly vivid imagination, so visualizing an encounter or even a whole story while falling asleep is the next best thing.
I wrote a bunch of scenarios in my head like that over the years, some of it was rather satisfying. I even tend to a real garden and sometimes go off that.
