I went back to the PC-98 games and beat those first because they were easier. Not canon in windows though, story wise.
Even if you can't 1CC EoSD yet feel free to give the others a try. You learn a lot of the story just by making it to the final boss.
The first three fighting games are really fun too and have good stories.
If you really wanna delve in though there's manga, though even after like a year and a half of being heavily into this shit I still haven't figured out where to start reading them.
