It really depends. Some companies don't care about English translations (because they never planned to make money off English speakers anyways) while others do care.

I thought /jp/ would appreciate those animes with meaningful themes and/or clever social commentary. Or at the very least ones where the messages are open-ended enough so you can interpret those themes for yourself. You know, just like good piece of literature or a good film. That's /jp/ level anime right there.

Anime doesn't have to be all panties, zombies, and beach fanservice episodes. I mean you don't tolerate books about that stuff, right? So why would your favorite anime be Strike Witches or K-ON?
