I really should get around to reading more of the novels.
I remember posting about reading the first one here. That was a long time ago now.

The anime is a good introduction to Marimite.

After reading the first novel, I went back and re-watched the corresponding episodes in the anime and was surprised at how much DEEN had cut out. Events seemed to make a lot less sense once I knew what was missing. However, I would like to stress that somehow the anime managed to convey the spirit of the novels and the characters (imho), despite all the cuts. While I think I will enjoy the writing in the novels far better, and that they give me a much clearer picture of each character, I do not think that the anime is 'inaccurate'.

Plus the anime has a stellar cast, and Yumi's facial expressions!

Regarding whether Marimite itself is good or not: that's a matter of taste. I loved it for many reasons.
It's about young women who think about something other than boys and popularity.
It's about personalities that click together like pieces of a puzzle.
It's about the importance of communication.
It's about being accepted as part of a group that you feel at home in.
It's about tea, and keigo, and walking slowly, and learning to be just a little bit more mature than you were when you first met the Yamayurikai.

So it's less about whether it is 'good', and more about whether its strengths appeal to you or not.

I have yet to acquire the second novel, so I have nothing new to say about them.

I would have presumed that some people would have gotten through a significant chunk of (if not all) of the translations by this point. No one has any thoughts?

Yeah, my brother saw Lilian Fourhand sitting on my desk the other day and asked if he could reinstall it. It was pretty nostalgic, listening to him play it in the other room.

I'm really enjoying the first one. I find that having things described rather than visually portrayed really adds another layer of information (this is not always the case, but I am finding it so with Marimite). I can try to provide examples if that statement isn't clear enough.

I always felt that I was only getting a glimpse of the characters from the anime, that it was more of a door than a room in and of itself. It was really frustrating. I get a very different feeling even from just the first novel.

Plus, so far it gives me that pleasant feeling one gets when reading a good book.

I started reading the first novel.
I keep it in my bag for when I'm commuting.
I can't understand everything, but I can understand enough.
It makes me smile like a complete idiot in public.
