I'm learning 5-10 Kana and Higa per day. Sure, you could probably memorize half of them in one or two day, but i'm not sure how good you'll hold up in the long run.

Anyway, it's not that Kana are hard, it's that they are pretty fucking boring. At least with Higa you are learning a complete new alphabet, but Kana are just Higa under different symbols, quite a chore.
