I learn really well with WaniKani personally. It costs money though, but it was completely worth it for me. Been doing it every day without fail for over a year now. To be honest though I think all of those years of watching anime was my biggest benefactor for increasing my vocabulary.

I had already been self studying for about a year when I took a nightmarish course at my community college. The teacher was a native speaker but she couldn't explain things very well in English. We just did a ton of writing drills and lots of work, I didn't learn much of anything new except how to hand write some kanji. I would just self study if I were you, unless you need college credits.

I've only done Tae-Kim for grammar and I've just finished reading my first untranslated VN. I was comprehending really well but now that I'm playing some more plot heavy VNs I'm starting to struggle a little bit on heavy technical concepts. I think that just might be a vocabulary issue but would checking out something like Genki or Imabi this late in the game be of any help?
