Mei actually introduces the idea of a Furude in the past being adopted by the Saionji family, who are also traditionally tied to priesthood. But that was lost to history, with only the Kimiyoshi keeping documentation showing that, but some of them prefer the current situation. Acknowledging the Saionji clan as Furude descendants would be basically giving power to people who don't even live in Hinamizawa.
