If you've played a ROTK or Nobunaga game ever in your life then it should be easy to adapt.
Especially when you know who everyone is

While there is plot it's pretty simple enough to understand what's going on, like Youki and Youmu encounters and special events like Yukkuri Rebellion.

The main appeal of the game is the side shit that happens, for example in my Tenshi play-through Flandre joined my army first turn, I then proceeded to earthquake the SDM which leads to Remilia trying to rebel constantly and joining whoever is fighting me currently.
All the way till the end.

Or Shinki ruining the religion wars scenerio by overthrowing Byakuren.
