To be honest, except for the mention of Toyohime and Yorihime marrying two of Eirin's relatives, the Hikohohodemi story isn't totally canon, so you can ignore it if it goes against your headcanon.

I just incorporated it as part of my headcanon, because it explains how the Watatsuki Sisters' husbands are related, and it makes it easier to give them a personality, as opposed to Husband A and Husband B.
