It's perhaps more realistic, but does it really make for a good story? Overall the biggest issue with Shirou/Rin as it exists in the VN is that it feels that it doesn't really have a proper conclusion IMO. Don't get me wrong, Archer's farewell and the classroom scene are pure kino, but it doesn't feel like enough, given how by the end the two aren't fully comfortable with another as the people who like them together want to see them (hence why the anime timeskip was so good). The sex scene doesn't really help things.
