I've been having this idea gnaw at me for awhile.

>A science space ship is forced to make an emergency jump into an unknown solar system after being attacked by an space pirate flotilla.
>They land on MGE planet in order to repair their ship.
>The good news is that their fabrication stations and laboratories mostly survived the rough landing and primitive natives they can use to help get their stuff going again.
>The bad news is that their fabricators can't handle massive complicated machinery (I.E. a space ship) along with the ship's reactor is doomed to fail within twenty or thirty years.
>The crew is now forced to technologically uplift the natives as they do not have the means to get offworld otherwise.
>Not to mention has they continue to uplift the natives, they'll end up attracting attention from numerous factions including the demon lord and the Order.
