I shivered, then turned and continued to head along the path out of the Misty Lake's vicinity. I didn't think I liked Sakuya Izayoi. She was cold, she didn't hesitate to insult the fairies under her employment, and she was probably planning to punish Meiling in the morning. Plus, she'd sort of insulted Yamame by implying that she'd try and eat me one day. Perhaps I was just a bit too sensitive for my own good and Meiling's outbursts had gotten to me in a fashion I hadn't expected. I had a weak spot for anything related to family. Or, perhaps, Sakuya was just a cold, indifferent boss. I'd heard Reimu mention Remilia Scarlet's sister, once, in conjunction with blowing up the moon. I still wasn't entirely convinced that she actually could, but I wondered if the relationship between Remilia and her sister was good. I hoped so.

By the time I reached the crossroads leading to the village and the Shrine, Yamame had warmed up enough that she was sleeping more peacefully. I supposed that she'd been tired, too, having spent most of the previous day stressing about the meeting. Still, I had to bring her all the way through the caves if I wanted to get her home, and honestly, I was freezing cold now, and while I wasn't drunk - due to the peach, in one of the more tragic effects it had bestowed - I was still fairly tired. I wasn't entirely sure I could make it all the way through the caves. For a moment, I thought about it, and then I turned in the opposite direction and began on the path toward the Shrine. I could only hope that Reimu was still awake, or was at least willing to not throw a needle between my eyes before I could explain why I was showing up to the Shrine, freezing cold and with a sleeping girl in the early hours of the morning.

By the time I'd climbed the steps up to the Shrine, I felt like I'd prefer the needle between my eyes more than anything else. The tiredness was getting to me and making it hard to even lift my feet, and the last few steps were murder. Once I was finally at the top, breathing fairly harshly, I sighed in dejection at the fact that the lights were all off. I supposed that I should have seen that coming, but still, I crossed the courtyard - which was covered in leaves, as the last vestiges of Autumn claimed what remained of the trees, and awkwardly got up onto the veranda. Hoping that I could at least get into the Shrine's spare room, I began to walk across the veranda, but as soon as I passed Reimu's room, the door was flung open and a gohei smacked into my head, sending me flying off the veranda and painfully crashing into the hard ground below. That, horrifyingly, meant that I'd dropped Yamame, but I heard an exclaim and when I managed to shake the stars from my eyes, I saw that Reimu's reflexes had apparently kicked in, because she'd been able to dash forward and catch Yamame before she could hit the ground.

The end result was me on the ground with a sore head, Yamame with wild eyes and her arms wrapped around Reimu's neck, and Reimu staring at me disbelievingly. "What the hell are you doing?" She demanded, sharply. "Why are you sneaking around outside my Shrine at this time of night?"
