Hana had sat there with the cup of cocoa in her hands, it warmed her and feeling that if she’d insult Yukari she would go on another rant, she sipped at it. It did taste good, but she could barely enjoy it between her frazzled nerves and the sage still standing above her, fidgeting lightly as she stared a hole into Hana’s head.

Yukari leaned over again, and after a moment’s indecision she reached out a hand and stroked Hana’s hair. Hana was confused and wanted to pull away, but something told her that’d be a bad idea. Perhaps she sent out the wrong message, because Yukari took the cup from her, placing it on the desk and pulled her into a hug while she stroked head.

It was anything but comforting, and her cooing as she shushed her sounded awkward. Hana never knew someone could stutter a shushing sound before. Hana spoke up like a scolded child, “Yukari-san? What are you?” but Yukari was intent on her course of action, “I just want father back…”

Sighing out sadly, Yukari pulled back, “That is the one thing I cannot do so soon.” She stayed crouching as she spoke softly, gazing into Hana’s eyes, “Hana-chan, I do care for you so. I wish you could see past the mere physical side of your reality and look behind the curtains.”

Her voice soft and calm and the tears from earlier reduced to puffy eyes Hana asked, “Why father? I.. I know you’ve liked father for some time, but why him?”

With a defeated expression Yukari met her gaze, once again a blush threatened to spread out but it was controlled, “Well that… You see…” Hana interrupted, “I knew you wouldn’t release him and just wanted to torment him, I was fool for believing in you…”

A pout crested Yukari’s face, she seemed to reach a decision about something before commenting, “Very well, I will tell you. Honestly… Making a maiden pour her heart out like this…” Hana declined to comment on that, “You see, I selected your father from the outside world for your mother. I knew he was the adventurous sort; I knew his likes and dislikes, I knew that he would admire Reimu-san’s ideals. I knew he could keep her grounded, I knew the feral youkai problems would only get worse and cause a problem. I knew that she would let her anger take control sooner or later, so whoever I chose would have to take his vows of marriage as seriously as life and death.”

Hana unfurled from the chair as Yukari continued, her focus was wavering for some strange reason but she forced herself to listen to Yukari’s words, “It was a trivial task of ensuring that he made his way to the shrine at one of the wilder parties to be thrown, around the time that goddess of the markets became active. You see everyone had money to spend, and it was simple enough to ensure that the sake vendors of the human village would have their better brews on sale because earlier I… ah that is getting off topic.”
