"And then Alice-san flew past. I couldn't hear her well, but it sounded like she said 'her Shanghai was running'. It gave me quite the fright but that was the end of it." Youmu recounted her experience—poorly—to her Mistress, Saigyouji Yuyuko. Her retelling was full of stops, starts, and omissions of certain details. Yuyuko sat quietly across the table, sipping tea in between handfuls of gyoza and nodding to acknowledge her scatterbrained servant's account.

"So then," Yuyuko finally said, "What do you think of Yukari-chan's diorama?"

"Diorama?" Youmu paused and set down her chopsticks. "I didn't get a good feeling about it. The ladies there all looked happy, but it all felt a little off. And Ran-san wasn't anything like I remember. Do you know anything about it Yuyuko-sama?"

"So that's how it is." Yuyuko thumbed through the pamphlet Youmu brought back. The moment of silence ended when she abruptly set the brochure down. Yuyuko turned to the window with the moon in full view. A frown existed only for a second, "Hearts are fickle things, unbound by reason, inexorable and unpredictable. She's always had a poor grasp of that."

Confusion was clear on the half-phantom's face. "There's nothing we can do about it," Yuyuko placated. "I already knew a little about her buisness. Yukari-chan sent me a ticket for a 'limited access VIP' several months ago, but I didn't want to bankrupt her while she was still starting. But only limited access, I wonder why that could be the case~. No matter. You have tomorrow off but stay in the Netherworld. And clean your clothes well, Lunar Incense is hard to scrub out."

Youmu's face lit up like the sun. She promptly cleaned up the table and dishes with gusto. Yuyuko looked on her bubbly gardener with delight, so innocent to the sins of the world. This was not a task she could ever ask of her.

Early evening the next day. Yuyuko walked with graced into the building shown on the brochure, ticket in hand. Youmu wasn't wrong, but she was still far too inexperienced to comprehend the scale of the full host of magics both new and ancient saturating the building down to the foundation. As befitting of a VIP, she would be catered to by the Proprietress herself.

"Ara Yuyuko! I was wondering if you would ever visit." Standing at the entrance before her was Yukari, a longtime friend of over a millennium. "Shall I walk you through? There's a lot I want to show you and—" Yukari trailed off, her excitement rapidly dwindling with a barely audible mutter: "That Viper…"

"That's no good Yukarin. You'll trouble me if you pop a vein like that~."

"I'm really sorry Yuyuko, there's just a… thorn that keeps pricking me. Could you come back later? It wounds me to waste your time coming out here, but I'll be more than happy to make it up to you. I just—I have to go!" Yukari hastily slid back into the gap.

"Ho~ But the night is still young. Such a shame to waste such a nice evening. Isn't that right, Yu-ka-ri?" Yuyuko trotted along past where she once stood and walked towards the miasma cloud radiating from the receptionists desk. "Hello again Ran. I'd like to use this and upgrade to a full access and schedule a course with the 'main attraction' if you would."

The weary fox set to work pulling out the correct forms, eyes glazed over with contempt. "Fill this out and follow behind me."

Yuyuko tagged along behind Ran and was led into a preposterously large closet. Its walls lined with thousands of miko outfits. Several minutes of traversing to the correct isle later Yuyuko was met with a plus-sized mockery of Reimu's outfit bearing her name on the tag, the shoulders and collar covered with dust. The outfit over was in the same neglected state, but smaller and bore the name Youmu. If she still had a beating heart still, she was sure it would've skipped a beat. "Excuse me for the poor care, I put priority to the more 'well used' uniforms," Ran said, brushing off the dust, "please use the changing room and wear this at all times while enjoying the attractions."

"If I must wear this, may I still keep my fan with me? You wouldn't separate a lady from her fan would you?" Yuyuko asked, an open eye peeking above her splayed fan.

The mask cracked, but only just. "Of course. It would be rude to deprive you of your personal effects. In any case, please enjoy your time until your number is called. You'll only have an hour wait at most."

Ready and changed into the scratchy uniform, Yuyuko wondered about the waiting area and observed the various distractions with a closed fan in one hand, and several sticks of dango in the other. Exotic patrons as Youmu said, but that wasn't what she was here for. A hallway leading to the bathrooms also revealed a door labeled "STAFF ONLY". Oh dear, it seemed she forgot how to read. Must be age taking its toll. She couldn't call herself a friend if she didn't help Yukari with some stress testing.

That artist in general has a nice distinctive style, even if I don't like what it's used to draw.

Yuyuko only pretends to be dumb. She just takes it easy and knows that there are certain situations for both intelligence and simple-mindedness. You shouldn't think so hard about things and try to act smart all the time.

Regardless, she talks in interesting metaphors even in her less intelligent dialogue.
What is most interesting is that her dialogues in IN hints that she knew who the real culprit was and more about what was going on than even Yukari. She also lays down the smack on Eirin, supposedly one of the brightest and most intellegent minds in all of Gensokyo and sees into her true motives very quickly.

Yuyuko could very well be one of the smartest Touhous in Gensokyo. If not at least one of the wisest.

Ever feel that there are two different groups that occupy /jp/.
One group takes it easy and sticks to on-topic threads and the other group is filled with /a/ subhumans who come here for off-topic and are elitist for the sake of being elitist. That itself is fine but the /a/ subhumans sometimes come into the on-topic threads and shit them up. I wish the janitor did something about this.
