It's just people assumed that Gou/Sotsu Hanyuu being a copy (who even speaks slightly differently, something directly brought up in Sotsu) would lead somewhere, and betrayal/evil Hanyuu seemed to be the most likely possibility.

But it just had no point, and the final arc even tried to hope people completely forgot about that plot point in order to see it as "everyone is alive and happy!".
