There are good stories that use this method (i.e. The Lord of The Rings) but as a beginner you should avoid piling on tons of exposition onto your reader. It’s better for the book to let the reader discover whatever world they’re reading about through the story rather than having them trudge through a short history of the world you’re making. In the Harry Potter books, Harry doesn’t know shit about magic to begin with. That’s why he has to go to Hogwarts to learn about it. And when he learns something new about magic, so does the reader.
