It's pretty simple, really. It's the difference between how humans and Elves perceive time. Even before the rise of the Demon Lord, they were more than likely effectively immortal ( but not invulnerable ), so they had a small population. After all, why be in the rush for children when you'll literally live forever after reaching adulthood barring some kind of war with Orcs or a Dragon smiting your ass? This would also give Elves admittedly far too much time to experiment sexually, whether it be same sex relationships, interspecies, what have you. We're talking about decades of trying to amuse yourself, and at that point you've pretty much done everything. Boredom is the first step on the long road to relapse.

Then, as we all know, the Demon Lord takes the throne and Elves slowly begin to become a sub-species/chimeric fusion with Succubi. Where they would see humans as an amusing creature before, not dissimilar to how humans see apes, it's slowly being replaced by an insatiable hunger.
