We don't know any of that for sure and it is just people theorizing why it's her who took part in it instead of Lui.
Only thing Botan said is that she joined only with Korone and she thought it would be fun to see how strong she could get as a newbie.
Now she did ask about gaming laptops two weeks ago so that she could play while in the go but that is related to her ramen project and there is no concrete way to say if she knew about the tournament at that point.
