Gust tried to reboot the series as a full on yuri franchise with the anime and tie. They both drastically under performed and Sun is the only reference to BR in any of the KT financial reports, they already gave up on BR as a series going forward it seems. I think Tie sold more than 1, but at the same time it had a way bigger budget and got a huge multimedia launch with it. Gust sales post Ryza 1 are also way higher for all of their games now too along with overall videogames sales increasing every year. Either way, references of tie and the anime were scrubbed pretty quickly by KT.

In the end I think the main things killing the series was them toning down all of the fanservice and most people don't actually like or care for yuri.In the end BR was always just a slice of life jrpg with lots of JK fanservice. I just view the male MC as damage control because they need to make their money back. Also Shiho is basically the main love interest in Sun which I'm sure makes yuri fanatics super upset.

Unrelated but I'm pretty sure Tie was banned in Russia because of the yuri content too which I found funny.

i think some series can break out and be popular because of the yuri aspects, BR was never a big series and them going all in on yuri did nothing for it.

It was only a few months ago that we learned that the MC of Sun would be male. There was a very long time where nothing was known about Sun. Pretty sure November was the first we actually had any news about there being a male character which was only months before its launch.
