The problem is that there's a lot of (intentional or not) inconsistencies in Touhou works that make varying interpretations equally (or at least plausibly) valid. It's hard to back off when the opposing side literally has no way of proving you wrong.

...but of course a few people disagree even with that and claim that their reading is the one and only. That pisses me off, I admit.
