I can't stress enough the best way to learn how to write is to read. You'll discover new ways to describe things, learn what works and doesn't, and even pick up sarcasm. Of course, you'll have to keep an analytical mind when you read - to stop and pick apart paragraphs and such and figure out why the author chose to do something the way they did.

As to your earlier comment about writing reports and what not, it's very, very easy to tell it rapes one's ability to do creative writing. Through high school and college everyone just learns how to do reports and essays and all this other dry, boring shit that has to be in MLA format or whatever the fuck.

I am not a good writer, but I'm struggling to get better. I need to read more myself, especially seeing as how I'm attempting a dual narrative story and I've never actually read one so I have no idea how to pull it off.
