I really like the commentary in this game. Maybe I see deeper meaning in shit that isn't deep but, Megumu and Chimata represent two ideas when it comes to economics.
Megumu and Chimata have ideological differences when it comes to the "marketplace" (selling the ability cards). Chimata views the marketplace where it has rules and regulations. Megumu is the opposite in that it should be only business and few rules as possible. Megumu also wants power to be centralized in the tengus, giving them control of the market. In the game Megumu betrays Chimata due to this. I think it's super interesting giving two ways of economics (Government regulated vs free market capitalism) as bases for two characters is awesome.

This isn't the first time ZUN gave some sort of commentary on markets, either. In the Magical Astronomy CD, for Necrofantasia there is this quote: "Capitalism, just as a Noah's Ark, has promoted the economic gaps. Because of this, the birth rates of all countries have fallen, though this just means that capitalism has entered its final step, population controlling." I'd love to read more of ZUN's thoughts on government.
