I'm not too great unless I play Yukari or Patchouli, really. And even then it is because I can lay traps and "cover" my playstyle with bubbles, borders and Chen/Ran.

Go get the full card file from the wiki and customize your decks. It helps. It also makes the game more fun because you can tailor characters to work for you.

Given Alice's primary goal of making sentient living dolls and Patchouli acting as the gatekeeper of the biggest knowledge bank in Gensokyo I think they would meet. From biology to black magic, there are a lot of subjects to consider and a lot of potential time spent studying in the library.
I also think Alice has the tact to negotiate on beneficial terms with SDM as a whole in order to maintain a decent relationship. Just imagine how many dolls Flandre must break every week while "playing." I bet it would be good practice on making tougher dolls too.
I think Patchy and Alice would get along just fine.
