During the great Gensokyo War, the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Eientei and The Great Shrine began to amass a fortune. They formed what was known as the Matriarchs. A group of women leading their factions trying to devise a counter to the threat they saw at the Mountain of Faith. They were hoping to dedicate the funds to danmaku research, spell card research, power ups and extra lives. However, they did not expect the war to end so suddenly with the deployment of the Master Spark Spell card. With all the left over money and with no goal in mind, the Matriarchs split up and began squabbling amongst themselves for the money that was left over from the war. The money was lost forever as the list that contained the bank accounts that the money was hidden suddenly dissapeared. With the money gone, the factions split up and a new war began...a Cold War if you will. 20 years later, Flandre...a rouge agent of the Scarlet Devil Mansion is suspected to have found a microfilm containing the list of accounts of the money amassed from the great Gensokyo War. I don't have to say it...if she successfully uses that money...she can develop the Danmaku Gear and launch stealth Spell Cards at her whim.
