Well, Rena used to be his generic icon, but I guess after Higurashi he associated her too much with it and stopped that.

Rika's design is also relatively generic and reusing it doesn't stand out as much as reusing Rena would. It's just a himecut, which you can see in many series, and then it can be tweaked with stuff like sidetails.
