If you support them by buying merch at least the only filter between the talent and the money is Cover and logistics (taxes and other jewry aside).
You can also send them gifts directly during specific times, so why not save up and buy your oshi's merch and send her good presents instead of throwing money at the screen for the big corp like a brainless drone?
By sending her gifts you're also giving her material that can be used as content for zatsudan or member streams.
By buying merch you can interact with her and other people who bought the goods and you can tell they are genuinely happy to see that people are getting them (See Okayu's oppai mouse pad posts on twitter for instance).
