Once I'd reached the conclusion of the Eientei Investigation, Miss Yuuka raised a hand. "If I am to understand this correctly...You were forced to leave the Human Village, live with a hermit, look after a sick Shrine Maiden, and eventually go and attack Eientei?" I nodded. "And...You met Miss Kurodani here, encountered various other youkai along the way, and were...kidnapped? By someone called Hearn?" Miss Yuuka frowned deeply. "Is this...A normal life for you?" Honestly, I hadn't thought so for a while, but it had been going long enough now that it might as well have been. Miss Yuuka stared at me. She wasn't smiling, and her eyes were boring into me. I squired a little in my seat, wondering if I'd upset her somehow. Was she angry? Was she about to attack me?

But then I caught her lips quivering, like she was holding something in. And suddenly I could see the way her eyes were straining as if she was really close to breaking. Tentatively, I opened my mouth to ask if she was okay. The floodgates broke then, and she burst into laughter. Loud, animated, high-pitched, and surprisingly girlish laughter for a youkai that I'd thought to be rather mature, and aside from that, serious. She seemed to enjoy teasing people, but I'd never expected to see her almost collapsing in laughter like this. It just kept going, and every time she tried to speak, she'd break apart into more laughter, and on it would go. Yamame and I exchanged a look of confusion, and as she managed to calm down from her latest laughing fit, Yamame tentatively spoke. "Um...Miss Kazami...?" Miss Yuuka raised a hand, having begun leaning heavily against the table a moment earlier, to the point that I was worried that it would flip over. "Are - Are you okay...?" Yamame asked gently, and we both watched the youkai sat opposite us with some nervousness.

"Fine..." Miss Yuuka said, wheezing slightly as she sat back up straight and took in a deep breath. "Goodness. I haven't laughed quite like that for a very long time. What a fun human you are. I should like to hear more of your stories. They are excellent...Material." She directed those last words to me, and I hesitantly said thanks, and that I'd probably be happy to tell her more in the future. Privately, I wondered just what material she was talking about, then decided that I probably didn't want to know the answer to that question. Exhaling, Miss Yuuka took another sip of her tea. "When I told you that I could feel multiple youkai in close proximity to you at the conclusion of our first meeting, I hadn't expected that you would go and make the situation worse for yourself." Miss Yuuka took a moment longer, then exhaled, apparently just about keeping herself from another laughing fit. "And as for Hearn - Well, you shouldn't concern yourself with her antics. She is an awkward and asocial creature that cannot communicate anything simply." Miss Yuuka, I thought to myself, was seemingly incapable of being anything but direct. I wondered how she knew about Hearn, but I knew that she was likely a lot older than she appeared, so I supposed that it wouldn't have been a surprise to hear that the two had met in the past.

I slowly nodded, though personally, I probably would still concern myself with any antics she had in mind. I wasn't as hardy as Miss Yuuka. I wasn't even as hardy as Yamame. So, I said once it was clear that Miss Yuuka wasn't about to burst into any more laughing fits, That was the main reason that I hadn't been able to see her any time recently. The other reason, I said, was a little more personal. I didn't really want to explain the circumstances of my parent's deaths and the situation that had led to me becoming incredibly youkai averse for a while, to the point that on the one occasion in that time period that I had seen Yamame, I had experienced an intense panic attack and she'd had to find someone to take me back to the Shrine. In the end, all I said to Miss Yuuka was that I'd experienced something that had left me struggling to leave the Shrine where Reimu and I were taking care of each other. "That lazy Shrine Maiden, taking care of someone else?" Miss Yuuka asked, her voice slightly coloured by surprise. I nodded and said that certain personal revelations had led to her making more of an effort. "Is that right?" Miss Yuuka asked me. "Interesting." She rested her chin on her interlocked fingers. "And here I was, thinking that she'd continue her pattern of shameful behaviour forever." I frowned and asked her what she meant be that. "Hmm? Oh, just some musing." Miss Yuuka said, her eyes growing sharper and focusing on me once more.

You're just admitting to your own inability to make a girl accept you. You greenhorn, don't talk about things you have no clue about. The local inchling can take the biggest size available if you know what you're doing.
For shame, anon. Oppantsu-sama would be disappointed.
