>watch a ton of anime for years since getting into it as a freshmen in highschool
>develop an intuition for how the language sounds and memorize words/phrases just from hearing them often and correlating it with the subs on screen
>eventually get serious about learning the language because I want to read untranslated loli VNs
>grind anki for a year
>drop anki and exclusively read VNs

>keep reading, the journey never ends
admittedly my output is not very good because I don't do much of it, but it's not terrible and I don't care enough to improve it. I can read VNs I want to read and that's all that matters to me.
