Kinzo dictates how the grandchildren of the Ushiromiya family are named.

There is more than one Battler.

Battler is always left to the end of the games. He is not a criminal and hasn't committed murder.

The murderer gains nothing from the gold of the epitaph. Perhaps the murderer wants Battler to solve it so Battler gain something, not the murderer. That something could be some kind of "proof" that he is the superior Battler and he deserves to carry the name.

The murderer wants Battler to despair at losing his family. The murderer perhaps believes Battler does not deserve his family, especially concerning how he rejected them for 6 years.

The murderer is another Battler. He is the same age as Battler and was originally intended to be the one that carried that name. He was rejected for some reason, possibly by Natsuhi, and the Battler we know took that name and took this Battler's place.

The murderer has to be someone in the 17 we've known about from the start. I say it's Kanon. There is no proof he is 16, not 19.

Kanon's plans do not always go well. Episode 1 is an example of his plans being executed well. He leaves Battler and Natsuhi to the end, as those two are his prime targets and he wants them to suffer.
