I doubt there was any bullying going on behind the scenes, so I think Sakura Gakuin was a really positive and enriching experience for all of them, not just Yui.

So I don't think she's full of herself, it's her job to be cool and confident on stage.
Maybe she's trying to get away from the whole kawaii thing which was most of her childhood & early teens and is now wanting to act/look kirei, which is maybe where the "smug" is coming from
