The problem is that unlike the competitors they weren't just catering, they were pandering without reserve to wota scum and damn if it shows.
Plus, what's the purpose of cold shouldering your usual fanbase in favor of a demographic which has no interest in H!P at all? Just to put it into perspective, Berryz were reportedly amazed to see females among the crowd at a concert in Korea, so figure it yourself how bad the situation must be in Japan.
