I'm not saying they're 100% copies, but they share a lot of similarities. Heirs to a powerful family, tomboys, would rather spend time with their friends than do family head business, soft on the inside, get flustered easily and lose their cool when teased by others or confronted by their love interest, ponytail, martial artists, constantly offer advice to Keiichi/Battler, also both can scream and cry like a champ.

Thing is Jessica has a lot less relevance in the plot than Mion, and a lot less air time too. She gets a bit of a spotlight for her fights in ep4 and 6 but that's about it. Mion's constantly there, outside of himatsubishi, and is the leader of the bunch.

It isn't a coincidence that official promo art had Jessica and Mion wearing each other's clothes either.
