The advice I would give to /jp/ anons trying to make friends at university is that you find them in unexpected places.

In first year I was friendless, even moreso than the 'nerds'. I tried all of the most obvious routes (anime club, etc) but left due to anxiety.

I stopped looking for friends on purpose and through a chain of coincidences and such I suddenly made a decent number of them. After you have at least a few it becomes much easier to make more.

The most obvious solutions aren't always the best. Most people at anime clubs are closet normalfags/annoying anyway.
