the most principal difference and the most featured thing of vocaloid is that everything is based in a cycle by fans for fans, there's nobody official behind of the vocaloids becauze anyone can work with them.
crypton and yamaha only created a software called vocaloid, the rest was built by the communitie, the concerts and games and collaborations came after.
