Fate/hollow ataraxia tells the story of a woman, circa 2004, who is taken away by time travelers to the early 21st Century. Once there, she marvels at the wonders that the future offers, but is also increasingly amazed to find that she longs for her own time (the past) and the man she left behind because of her journey forward. Although she has been provided an artificial man, who obeys her every command without question, she quickly realizes that this is a poor substitute for her lost love: the artificial companion can never love or be loved by her. Her desire to return to the past grows stronger once she is told that she cannot be returned to her own time, and she attempts an escape using her captors' time transporter equipment. Her premature escape is foiled by her captors, and she subsequently discovers that they had been keeping her in their future only to illustrate to her how it suffers from the choices that had been made during her time. The woman is finally returned to his year of origin (2004), armed with the understanding necessary for her to make a positive impact on the future.
